Tintagel and the Surrounding Area
Tintagel is situated on the North Cornish Coast and is surrounded by dramatic headland. It is a place of magic and myth where the legend of King Arthur was born. Tintagel provides a fantastic base for the quintessential Cornish holiday: close to glorious beaches, dramatic coastal cliff walks, not to mention lots of picturesque fishing villages with cosy pubs and cafes! In the immediate area some of the highlights include:
Tintagel Castle
Tintagel Castle
With its spectacular location on Cornwall's dramatic and windswept Atlantic coastline, Tintagel Castle is Cornwall's most iconic site. A strong hold of the Earls of Cornwall, the castle was built in the 13th century. Although the castle is in ruins, there are enough romantic archways and remaining walls to inspire the imagination, especially against the backdrop of crashing turquoise waves. Rough Tor
Rough Tor (pronounced ’router’ by locals) is one of the most famous landmarks on Bodmin Moor. A few miles from camelford, you can drive to the car park near the base. It is a good 40 minute walk to the top but the views are fantastic. The piles of stones are fun to climb on and there are rain dents in the top of the highest stone. If you sit in them you can pretend you are flying an aeroplane! You will usually pass herds of hardy Bodmin ponies on your way up.
